Simberi Gold Mine - St Barbara 2023

TMS in conjunction with St Barabara Gold Mine mobilised a four-man dive team with equipment from the Cairns Shore Base to Simberi Island, PNG.

The scope of work was to carry out remediation works on the DSTP tailings pipeline and associated infrastructure.

The DSTP Mixing Tank receives process plant tailings along with some other minor site discharges. Those fluids are diluted at a minimum ratio of 8:1 with seawater before discharging to the ocean outfall via the DSTP.

The Mixing Tank has an operating head of between 3 and 6 metres with an average total flow rate of 7000m3/h.

The discharge spool is made of mild steel and is internally lined with 12mm Linatex rubber. It is approx. 1.4m long and 1m in diameter and weighs approx. 800kg

The dive team were engaged to complete in water and external T piece removal and repair works. This included and not limited to welding and ceramic application. A subsea inspection of the pipeline was also conducted.
